So, after I had had enough incompetence, corruption and abuse from the local PD, I decided to gather some evidence of them sleeping on the job. That is, on the clock, police car running, driver's seat all the way back, cop snoring, sleeping so soundly that they did not awaken when I shined a light into the car.
I needed the light so that they would be recognizable on the videos.
They coop with such regularity that it must clearly be known by everyone at the PD. Sometimes they send out another cop to wake up the sleeping cop.
Now, OP will deliver, but it won't be soon. I'm posting this to build some excitement, and am trying to figure out how to make a big splash. Perhaps a fundraiser for a charity? One video gets posted for each $???? raised?
Folks, it is scary as hell sneaking around at night trying to catch men with guns who are stealing from the taxpayers. I want this to count.

I'm not going to ask anybody to shed a single penny before I get to see exactly what I'm telling these people to spend money on.
If you do have evidence of misconduct by officers of the law, you have a duty to release the footage, regardless of whether or not it's generating money.
In fact, you risk far less by releasing without conditions those videos, exposing the officers immediately and thus preventing them from acting on any form of retribution.
You don't need money for protection, you need people who are aware of what's going on around you. We can't be made aware if you're just teasing us. You want to remain safe? Just unload the whole thing.
So I'm in turn going to ask you not to be an internet jerk: do not capitalise on this or you will lose any shred of credibility you have left.
Now donating to a legal fund subsequent to some sort of arrest, or police misconduct I would do.
It's my life, I get to decide. I don't have a duty to you. My credibility is in the videos. I don't want to prove cops sleep, I want to prove they LIE. So I have to PUBLICLY accuse them first without showing evidence. They will of course 'investigate' and find no wrongdoing...
If you think I'm doing this for your entertainment, you are mistaken. I see a way to get very wide exposure [not just the paltry 30k subscribers here] by having all this noise do some good for a charity.

Here's what you do: Stop being a pussy.
If you really have a problem with it, and you're really passionate about bringing light to the situation, you need no other motivation. The safety of the public at large should be your primary concern, your actions on this matter would serve as the charitable donation you seek.
If you're worried about backlash, keep the cameras rolling, or able to at a moments notice; use devices that can immediately upload or stream live to services like ustream to ensure the footage is available even after the fuzz bust up your camera and microwave your SD card. Buy a cheap IR emitter, to bathe targets in, they won't be able to see it but the camera will see them light up like daylight -in grayscale, but it serves identification purposes. Surplus stores that specialize in security equipment will definitely have IR lights powered by 12v, a cheap SLA 12v battery can be had for 7 dollars or so at your local battery store.
If I had any hard evidence that any local police were slackassing like this I'd be contacting media at the same time I was making public posts on every form of social media.

I already have video, as I said. I'm not just going to post it to liveleak and get ignored, I want to make it into a media event. If you think anything would happen otherwise, besides paid time off for a cop, you haven't been paying attention.
Dude, you don't understand. Yes, you have posted, but it's a post with no substantial content until you have been satisfied. But by asking for donations, you make it seem so...sketchy. It's easy to see you want media attention, but just think of the countless others who have gotten it without resorting to asking for donations to "spread the word".
If your story is good, it will make its own traction.
Asking like this then attacking people who question your motives has only made me want to downvote everything you post (I haven't done that yet though). You're making the opposite of your intentions happen.

I'm not just going to post the videos, or hand them over to some idiot reporter who should have been investigating the PD already, I am going to make these cops famous.
A video of a cop sleeping won't get a million hits in a week on youtube, but it could if there was some novel angle to it. I'm going to create that angle. [angle is a word reporters use all the time when you bring them a story].
If you flood every possible outlet, it will get millions of views. You say you're not going to hand it over to a reporter who might get it "lost" in the shuffle.
Then hand it over to dozens of reporters, local media stations, newspapers. But...if you post it on the net, guess what? It can't get lost anymore. Because it'll be available to everyone.
Or how about this, post the videos and add a little blurb at the beginning or end of it (or in the video summary) asking people to donate to charity. You've done your good deed AND helped make some justice.
If you think that asking for donations for charity is going to help spread the word more effectively than simply posting it. You're wrong.
Go to actual media, news papers, radio, television. Give -them- the video. You don't have the resources to start your own 'media event' on such a scale, you have to release the information to those that do, and back it up by spreading it freely online to create awareness -let the people know you've handed this to various media outlets, give them contact information so these outlets can be questioned by the public if they sit on the content instead of running a piece. If you think you can get him fired somehow, I think -you- haven't been paying attention, officers have -killed- people and gotten off with a tax payer funded vacation. I've probably spent more time drawing public awareness to inadequate police officers than you ever will, and I've done it of my own free will instead of asking for donations. When you spend your time in court for standing up to officers with poor conduct you can tell me a thing or two about paying attention.
You can do this correctly, or you can do this with your ego in mind. It's up to you.

Yes I do; I have done it several times before. There have been articles about some of my other findings in the New York Times, Village Voice and other major papers, many of the compsec/tech sites, I've been on nationwide radio and TV, too. I don't need an ego boost.
I even used reddit once to great effect, it's a good way to knock down the first domino. At least it used to be.

You asked for donations in a couple posts, whether or not they're for you or another organization you still are asking for donations before you release your information.
If you've gained public attention for other issues, why are you dropping the ball so hard with this one? If you have prior submissions with places like the New York Times, surely your local papers would be clamoring for someone of your caliber to submit information! If you want to use reddit, you're clearly using the wrong sub. We already know a lot of cops conduct themselves poorly, and we want evidence before we start passing information to our peers. Try somewhere else if you want to 'get a buzz going.' Though I can tell you that no one is going to put forth any funds, to anyone, to see an anticlimactic video of a sleeping police officer.
Quick question: would you handle this the same way if it were video of a beating, or other heinous action? Would you taunt people saying 'I have a video.. but I'm not going to post it until ____'? Or would you slap it on youtube, liveleak, everywhere you could while simultaneously sending copies to every media outlet in your community? I can tell you if I wanted attention towards the subject (and not a herring of charity that takes away from the issue) I'd do everything in my power to get it out immediately.

You're awfully daring with MY safety. The reporters at the NYTimes and other papers have no idea who I am, just the things I've discovered [I passed verifiable information on rather dangerous groups - they didn't need to know who I am] and the other media who know me do not report local stories.

I wouldn't put you in situations I wouldn't put myself into. I'm speaking from experience, as stated a few times now. It's not foolish to ask any question, especially when you've done so much to cast doubt as it is, not to mention you're afraid of potential repercussions. You think a sleeping cop video will get you roughed up? You may die for posting a video of a beating! You have the tools in place to protect yourself, you are refusing to use them effectively and unfortunately it's the public in your immediate area that are suffering for it, even if it's unbeknown to them right now. You obviously know how to submit information anonymously, I suggest you do just that. If you posted the video now, I'd have shown multiple people, and they would have shared it as well. Many, many people on this sub would have done the same, generating this almighty buzz you're after. Instead, you are doing it foolishly, and instead of admitting you're wrong and taking sound advice, you're backing up your foolish idea.
