A gamer is a gamer, male or female and if you try to claim the title of "gamer girl" then tits or gtfo.
Show me your cock. You know, for science.
This can be arranged. Problem is I have no privacy AT ALL for a week or so. I'll get back to you?
Yes, pls.
I don't rember when "iDivideBy0" stated s/he has a cock or is male. You must be projecting.
>A gamer is a gamer, male or female
Yes.
> ... and if you try to claim the title of "gamer girl" then tits or gtfo.
No, you were doing so well and you ruined it ALL.
No, you did.
No, you did.
The only reason a girl gamer makes it known that she is a girl, is so that she gets the special treatment that she gets from all her guy friends in real-life. But, there are no girls on the internet, therefore she doesn't get that special treatment she craves from the guys. So if she wants that special treatment, she has to give the guys a reason to be nice to her, and that is the same reason why they are nice in real life too.
Oh yeah, getting told "tits or GTFO" or "make me a sandwich" sure is special fucking treatment.
It's no different than "OP is a fag". I don't cry about being called a fag, or the fact that all of Xbox live has fucked my mother.
It's hugely different, particularly when rape threats and slurs are involved. That you want to keep gamer culture at an 8th grade level is not commendable.
lol it's no different than "OP is a fag" or "I raped your mom." If you weren't a girl, that is what you would be hearing instead from those same people. It's 8th grade trolling, just ignore them.
So yet again, the girl feels she deserves special treatment to not be harassed.
It is, again, hugely different. Are men sending you pictures of their dick? Are they demanding you show them your breasts? No. So stop trying to equate to different levels of harassment, both of which should end.
If it wasnt gay they would. Everyone gets famed, its trashtalk
You just admitted that its something done specifically to humiliate women. You don't seem to have much empathy. This is not trashtalking, this is harassment performed to exclude and shame only women.
You want special treatment as well?
Show me your hard cock and I might think about it? C'mon, don't be shy.
Ew, you don't want to see that. Boy gamers are all fat and ugly, that's why they play games to get special attention!
You don't even have to ask, I already sent a pic of my 8 inch wang.
Looking forward to it, Johnboy!
You know. I just wish that this issue was flipped on everyone like you. Just so you'd know how it felt. Because obviously no one with empathy would think, write, or say what you have written.
>is so that she gets the special treatment that she gets from all her guy friends in real-life.
AHAHAHA. ARE YOU SERIOUS. ARE YOU SERIOUS. "SPECIAL TREATMENT"? OH GOD.
Edit: If you think the way women are treated in games is positive in any way, you are mistaken. There's a reason most women hide their gender online and it isn't because they want to. Its because bullies like you harass them over it because you see women as sex objects.
It doesn't matter if you're a girl, woman, transgendered, gay, straight, republican, dog, cat, etc. It's all the same when you're a faceless anonymous username. So why is it important that they make it known they are girl? Why does it have to be a title for them?
Because simply talking on mic reveals your gender most of the time? Women don't go into a server saying they are women, they start talking on mic and get a barrage of hatred. Also "transgendered" is somewhat rude, "transgender person" is preferable.
>Why does it have to be a title for them?
It isn't a 'title', its their identity. Why do women have to hide their gender just to make you more comfortable?
Plenty of female gamers do more than just speak/ act normally. They'll act as if being a girl and a gamer makes them really special and worthy of more attention than other "normal" girls who stereotypically don't enjoy video games. And there are also plenty of female gamers who are complety cool about everything and just play. And there are plenty of shit-head male gamers who assume a girl playing video games/ talking on team chat just wants attention, when really she's just trying to enjoy herself like everyone else. But I think top commenter is trying to call out the first category of people I mentioned (yes they do exist), but it probably could've been done much more tactfully. Generally, the gaming community refers to "gamer girls" and "girl gamers" as different types of people, and while you may not like the labels, a lot of people actual fall into one or the other.
Guess I missed the part when your analogies had any evidence to back them up. I've NEVER seen that happen, and I think your misogynistic bias makes you see women as acting that way when they don't. I also think that you think creeps clumsily hitting on girls, which the girls completely don't want, by the way, as 'special treatment'. Even if women are treated 'better', that's still the fault of males for seeing women as sexual objects when they just want to play the fucking game.
Well I'm sorry I can't cite personal experiences... Forgive me for not documenting every social experience I ever have. If you've never seen it then fine, that's your experience, I'm not going to tell you what you have or have not seen. Not sure where you think I'm biased though. I never said that there were a lot of girls being unreasonable while they play. In fact, I will grant you that it's the men who more often behave rudely (but again, forgive me for not recording statistics on which sex acts more stupid by percentage, it's not a fucking contest). But the top commenter is not talking about all the shitty male gamers there are that will hit on any girl that also plays. Everyone knows they exist. He's talking about a very specific type of girl that you may not have seen, but I have. Not sure why I even try to convince SRS that you can support equality amongst different peoples without taking offense to everything that can be even slightly construed as bigoted or privileged. A lot of women get treated unfairly. We get it. But don't you think it's at least possible that there are some women out there that use video games primarily to make themselves stand out? Not saying most, just some. EDIT: Grammar and such.
you know, for all the crying i see about dreaded feeeeemales demanding items and special treatment, i sure have never once seen it happen. i play online games damn near every day, shouldn't this have happened by now?
>Women don't go into a server saying they are women, they start talking on mic and get a barrage of hatred.
It's just an easy way to get trolled, get over it, just because some people say "OP is a fag" it doesn't make it true. I'm not even discussing those women, I'm talking about "Grrl gamers".
>It's just an easy way to get trolled, get over it
Nice backpedal!
>I'm not even discussing those women, I'm talking about "Grrl gamers".
Riiiight, I'm sure you have some great system for dividing the 'fake' gamers from the 'real' ones, based on your exquisite taste in video games.
k
I originally had "tranny" instead, so take it or leave it.
I like how you don't respond to any of my points, instead choosing to loudly announce your transphobia. You must be a great person to play video games with. /s
Go back to Thailand.
I respond to each of your points in separate comments, don't get your dick all twisted.
I don't know if positive is the right word but in the game I regularly play girls get very special treatment. After the usual "I don't believe you are a girl - Holy shit it's a girl" people act disgustingly nice to the girl and neglect every strategy to just help the girl out in some misguided attempt to get laid I guess. This usualy ends in a loss for my team. For this reason I stoped to team up with a girl I used to play with.
Of course there are the people that will say things like "girl lost us the game - go back to the kitchen" but in my experience this happens far less than the above.
Edit: Oh hai /r/shitredditsays. These downvotes sure showed me.
I'm not really interested in analogous evidence. I know firsthand that girls get abused on servers. The 'special treatment' you are referring to is usually creeps hitting on girls, and trying to be 'nice' in exchange for sex or dating. You should also consider that you are probably more sensitive to the creeps who try to be 'nice' than the ones who outright abuse girls directly. Its confirmation bias.
Why would I be more sensitive to the creeps than to the insults? I read both you know. And while playing an online game with a woman I saw more "creeping" than insults. My point was that there is "special treatment but that it isn't really positive". I would be furious if I was a woman and people would just follow me around handing out items and chat rather than win the game. Anyway this is not a scientific study, just an observation.
Yo, check out this and you might change your mind.
Hahah, this is gold.
So, what your telling me is when a woman mentions she's a woman it's because she want's attention, not because her gender is part of who she is and identifies with. You're a shitface.
Why does it matter if shes a girl? Did I tell her if I was a girl or a guy?
I thought the point was a gamer is a gamer?
Just because someone mentions their gender doesn't mean they want special treatment.
Yes, it does. Otherwise they wouldn't bother mentioning it.
Grice's Maxim of Relevance, cocksucker.
Explain.
He said, JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE MENTIONS THEIR GENDER DOESN'T MEAN THEY WANT SPECIAL TREATMENT.
By the way, I'm a woman.
You're female?! I MUST GIVE YOU SPECIAL TREATMENT!!!!
YOU'VE CAUGHT ME, THAT IS WHAT I LIVE FOR.
sometimes it does matter. Yet women still can't mention their gender, even when it is relevant to the current conversation or situation, because they are just accused of wanting attention.
ooh did you see that image from 4chan and decide you were an expert on gender relations?
Thing is, I don't want any 'special treatment', I just want to play the goddamn game, and with a mic there's no hiding that I'm a girl. I don't want anyone to be nice to me purely because I have tits, in fact, if the only reason you're being nice is because of a snowball in hell's chance that you might get laid, then please don't be nice to me.
Its just trashtalk. If you werent a girl they would call you a fag.
Oh! I get it, the only reason men are nice to women is because they are attracted to them.
Being nice to a woman stranger, and a friend who is a woman is two different things.
How's the 8th grade going?
Apparently, forever.
You'll see next year.
I'm sure middle school is treating him better than a life of attention whoring.
Get your dick out for the world then! Equal treatment right?
according to SRS's post of this comment, you were at +40 before they showed up, you're currently at -49. Not a downvote brigade though.
Just ignore the butthurt in the replies towards you. The SRS downvote brigade has linked to your comment.
This is why the phrase "There are no girls on the internet" exists. Some girls think that they will be treated the same on the internet as they do in real life, but fail to realize they don't offer the same things as a faceless username than they do when they go out in public in a sundress. Guys are nice to good looking women, because they want to impress and hook-up with the girl. On the internet, you can't hook up, therefore if you want to be treated like you're in public, you must show your tits.
Yeah, I saw that 4chan repost, too.
I saw it on SA first.
It was on Usenet before both those sites even existed you ignorant whippersnappers.
May I read your blog?
What the f*** is a blog?
What the "there are no girls on the internet" line implies is that there is absolutely no reason to indicate that you are anything other than the "default" except to "attention whore", so you must in a sense pretend to be the default (in this case, male) in order for your opinion to be legitimate. It's a stupid justification for enforcing "no gurlz allowed" in appearance if not in fact, because any time you notice that someone is female, you can ignore their words and call them out of bounds for not hiding it well enough.
If you're telling a story on reddit about a video game and let a gendered pronoun slip, you'll occasionally get replies like "OMG I'm a gamer gurl give me karma" or even comments about making sandwiches, which are usually answered by nothing but upvotes. It allows people to distract from the fact that women who post in male-heavy forums and who game online are frequently subject to sex-based harassment, because every time that subject comes up there are comments asking why the person revealed their gender as if that makes it their fault, or trying to delegitimize some of the complaints by distinguishing between real female gamers and "gamer girls". It's just another way of dodging a real issue.
This attitude reinforces the idea of male as "normal" and female as "other". It gives sexist assholes a borderline socially acceptable out for delegitimizing the opinions of women. It implies that the only reason to acknowledge diversity is to profit from it personally, and so you must conform in order for your opinion to be considered.
It implies that the only way women win arguments, make friends, or secure help when they need it in the real world is by using sex as a weapon or a tool — that is, that without the specter of sex, they are dumb and useless, so if you strip them of their gender identity, they are put back in their correct place. It's not really all that different from saying "I'm fine with people who are gay, as long as they don't act gay and make a big deal out of it" — what you're fine with is not gay people; it's the presumption that they're straight which allows you to pretend they're not there.
It's not saying "everyone is judged by their merits". If it was, it would say "there is no gender on the internet" and would encourage us consider opinions on their logic and basis in fact instead of based on what pronouns the person writing them used. "There are no girls on the internet" is a cheap way of wrapping sexism in the appearance of fairness. It whitewashes the presence of women in the conversation and enforces the idea as male as the norm and female as other and marginalized, but ties it up in a pretty bow to keep people from objecting.
It says "you're all males". "THERE ARE NO GIRLS". That creates one male gender, not something genderless. That's why it's show tits and not show cock. That's why it's rape jokes, but not jokes about cutting off a man's penis in his sleep. It's not genderless: it's gendered as MALE.
You didn't answer why they mention they are female, if it is irrelevant. What is the reason that they make it known that they are a girl? Gay people don't say their gay, Transgender people don't bring up the fact that they're transgender. But Women make it known that they are women, not a man? Why?
If someone uses masculine pronouns to refer to me and I think I'm NOT going to get utterly trashed just for giving a polite correction, I'll usually add a "*she" to my next comment. It can be really annoying to be misgendered.
